Oni are iconic demons in Japanese folklore. They are usually humanoid, often brutish, horned, and red or blue-skinned. As such they embody violence, punishment, and chaos. Traditionally shown as hulking figures wielding clubs, they’re symbols of both fear and moral reckoning.
In my depiction a lion-like face bursts forth from a pillar of black, demonic fire, its expression snarling, eyes wild with rage. Above them sits a third eye, calm and disinterested. The extended claw reaches through the flame with intent. This Oni is less like a simple brute and more like a manifestation of inner conflict.
